SCOTTS HILL – Final permitting details are being wrapped up and work could begin later this month on a super-sized real estate development in this Pender County community.
Construction on the 1,300-acre Blake Farm project could start between late April and early May, the Wilmington StarNews reported. The site is near an area already plagued with stormwater-drainage problems.

Trask Land Co. of Wilmington has plans for the mixed-use development that include retail, a rehabilitative senior center, a YMCA and events center and 2,200 residential units at completion. The first phases of construction will include the senior center with 200 upscale apartments, another 240 garden apartments and 88 single-family homes. Plans also include about 50 acres of commercial development with a possible hotel and medical office space along U.S. 17 and Sidbury Road.
The development’s main entrance will be directly across from Scotts Hill Loop Road on U.S. 17.
