‘Flight of the Ibis’

Photographer Terri Chabot captured this image, “Flight of the Ibis,” Sept. 30 at Fort Fisher.

“I came upon a large flock of white ibis bathing and preening in a pool of water that had accumulated after our recent heavy rains on the southernmost tip of Fort Fisher. My presence did not upset them, and I watched them for almost 30 minutes eating and playing in the water. Sadly, a groundskeeper came along with a large and loud lawnmower and scared the flock to a tree too far away for the lens I was using. I was lucky to capture a few shots of their takeoff to safer ground complete with water droplets leaving their feet,” Terri said in her submission.
