Watermen up and down the N.C. coast are readying their crab pots this time of year in anticipation of blue crabs moving back into shallow waters to molt. For some visitors, simply admiring the blue crab can be a thrill.

“Our family has been enjoying summers in Swansboro and Emerald Isle for over a decade,” said photographer Lisa Miles. “We pulled up these two blue crabs to show a group of on-looking children. We all marveled at their brilliant colors, then released them. The Crystal Coast is an amazing place to see and experience!”
