The area has traditionally been used for recreational crabbing and other activities.
A ‘no trespassing’ sign is to be posted and access to the area has been restricted until further notice, according to the announcement.
NCDOT said it is actively seeking to partner with other agencies or organizations to maintain and possibly utilize the area in the near future.
