Science on the Sound is an in-person lecture series that brings perspectives from all over the state and highlights coastal topics in northeastern North Carolina. The public is welcome to attend the about 90-minute program at no charge. It will also be live-streamed on the CSI YouTube channel.
Outer Banks Field Site program is a semester-long, interdisciplinary residential learning experience for undergraduate students hosted by the Coastal Studies Institute. Each fall since 2001, the students have spent the semester taking classes, engaging in internships with local organizations, and completing a Capstone research project as a group.
This year, the students addressed for their Capstone research project the elements of the Currituck Sound, including how prescribed fire is used as a management tool in marshes and how different stakeholders think about Currituck Sound and their place in it, including the changes they have observed and experienced.
