The 2025 schedule for all vehicle ferry routes and the Ocracoke Express passenger ferry has been released.
Under the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the Ferry Division, which provides ferry service year-round for all routes except for the seasonal Ocracoke Express passenger ferry, announced next year’s schedule Tuesday.

The Ocracoke Express is scheduled to carry passengers between Hatteras and Ocracoke Village May 13-Sept. 15. The vessel will make four round trips a day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday when ridership is highest. Three daily round trips on Friday, Saturday and Monday, lower ridership days. The ferry will not operate on Sunday, when ridership is lowest, to minimize any departure schedule impacts, officials said.
While there is no charge for riding most ferries, there is a fee to travel by the Ocracoke Express passenger ferry, and Cedar Island-Ocracoke, Swan Quarter-Ocracoke, and Southport-Fort Fisher vehicle ferries.

The Ocracoke Express passenger ferry and the vehicle ferries that travel between Ocracoke and Swan Quarter and Ocracoke and Cedar Island offer reservations 90 days prior to departure. Reservations are encouraged as soon as travel dates are known.
Southport-Fort Fisher, Cherry Branch-Minnesott Beach, Currituck-Knotts Island, and Bayview-Aurora vehicle ferries also operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. To avoid traffic, passengers are encouraged to travel on weekends, late afternoons, or early mornings.
