The Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge is readying for its first open-air tram tour of the year.
Reservations are required for the tour scheduled to take place 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 2.

To reserve one of the 25 seats on the tram, call 252-216-9464. Cost is $10 for 13. Those 12 and under ride free with a paying adult.
The refuge was established in 1984 to protect the rare pocosin wetlands and their associated wildlife. It is home to hundreds of birds and other wildlife including turtles, great blue herons, alligators, black bears, bobcats, red wolves, kingfishers, river otters and more.
During the tour, the guide will share the history of the refuge and identify plants and wildlife as they are spotted. Organizers advise that there is there is no guarantee there will be visible wildlife during the tour.
Meet at Creef Cut Wildlife Trail parking lot, about 6 miles west of Manns Harbor and bring binoculars, a camera, drinking water and insect repellent, organizers said.
