Visitors to the Cape Lookout Lighthouse, Keepers Quarters Museum, and Light Station Visitor Center this winter should exercise caution while a construction project to completely replace the existing boardwalk with weather-resistant materials takes place.
While winter is Cape Lookout National Seashore‘s slowest visitation season, those who do visit the island where the lighthouse is located in the coming months will be impacted, National Park Service officials said Friday.

During construction, access to the area may be limited, especially for those with mobility issues, and visitors should avoid work crews and heavy equipment.
The new boardwalk is expected to be finished no later than April 1, 2024. An exact date will be announced closer to the project’s completion.
