“The issue of sea level rise is of great importance to the State, its policy makers and the citizens of North Carolina. Periodic updates using current data are vital to help inform planning and decision making,” the draft charge, or written request, from the Coastal Resources Commission reads.
The charge goes on to detail the request that the science panel conduct an annual review of any new and significant scientific literature and studies that address the range of implications of sea level rise at the state, subregional and local scales. The review needs to include any key data or information gaps that should be prioritized for additional study and funding opportunities. The findings should be presented to the commission and the public annually.
This item is not on the commission’s agenda for the meeting scheduled for Feb. 10.
It’s to be determined during the Feb. 3 science panel meeting if the draft charge will be added to the commission’s agenda, a representative from the Division of Coastal Management told Coastal Review Tuesday.
