By winter 2023, about two-dozen miles of road in Currituck County are expected to offer motorists a much smoother ride.
The state Department of Transportation awarded a $3.9 million contract to Rose Brothers Paving Co. of Raleigh for milling, resurfacing, shoulder reconstruction and guardrail replacement on more than 23 miles of roadway in the Outer Banks county, the agency announced Tuesday.

The contract includes more than 5 miles of the marsh causeway connecting the Virginia state line to Knotts Island.
Secondary roads included in the contract to be improved are South Mills Road in Moyock, Brumley Road in Knotts Island, and Bayview Drive in Aydlett.
Work on the project will start as early as next spring and is scheduled to be completed by the winter of 2023, officials said.
