Doug Waters of Morehead City submitted this photo of thousands of wintering tundra swans on Pungo Lake in the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, as seen from the perspective of the easternmost observation platform.
“Just before sunset, most took to the air and flew off to the west, presumably to feed in nearby fields,” Waters said in his submission.
