HOLDEN BEACH — Guilford Bass, owner of the Holden Beach Fishing Pier, will run the pier for one more year after the town of Holden Beach decided not to purchase the wooden structure.
According to a Wilmington StarNews report, Bass plans to sell the pier and put the money in a trust for his children. However, he said, he wants a buyer that will not tear the pier down for development.

Bass offered to sell the pier to the town, but town commissioners rejected the offer for financial reasons. Holden Beach is currently working on a $15 million beach nourishment project and a terminal groin project.
The pier is still up for sale and Bass said he will continue to look for a buyer that will care for the pier.
