Photographer Leigh Gill captured this image, “C’mon Girls,” in 2011 at Currituck Banks Reserve in Corolla.
“It’s the wild horses, the stallion came out of the dunes and was waiting for the mares. They were taking their time poking along and he was getting impatient. He went to the last mare and nipped her hind leg and they all moved a bit faster but not to his liking, he snorted a few more times and led them south along the waters edge. It was my first time to see them and every time I look at these photos I feel good inside,” Leigh said in her submission.
