Photographer Amy Lock took this fiery photo on a ferry traveling from Cedar Island to Ocracoke, two islands along North Carolina’s central coast. “Crossing over on the evening ferry,” she wrote, “I watched as the sky and sea were the same pastel blue. Could barely tell them apart.

“The sun set and the colors just kept coming — still could barely tell them apart. The sky and sea were ablaze with orange, yet it was so quiet and peaceful. Just the hum of the ferry motor.”
